There is something special about leather that just captivates me. The history in its use, the smell, the feel, the sound when you roll it out and work with it.
I am Philip Potter, the craft-person behind Lochside Leather. I am based in Colintraive, a small hamlet on the banks of the beautifully scenic Kyles of Bute. Working as Lochside Leather I produce hand-made leather goods, using the finest quality leather hides and fittings sourced from UK tanneries and suppliers. Starting my journey at the end of 2023, I have spent the last couple of years learning new skills and striving to improve my techniques to produce the best quality I can.
Each item I produce is fully hand cut, sewn and finished to ensure the customer receives a unique product that will last them years. It has been a steep learning curve, but I have managed to progress what started as a small hobby.
I am extremely fortunate that the quality of my work has already been recognised, with a small selection being available at Mount Stuart House gift shop on the Isle of Bute.
I have also had the opportunity to fulfil requests for bespoke items, which I have designed and produced for other local artists. These have included Sgian-dubh sheaths for a local wood turner, binoculars cases; as well as sheaths for both straight and spoon gouges for a local spoon carver.
