About Cowal Open Studios

Cowal Open Studios is a group of over fifty artists and makers on the Cowal peninsula who work together to bring an Open Studios weekend to the area every September. We are a voluntary organisation that is largely funded by the artists themselves, along with contributions from our advertisers and sponsors.

In 2019, we welcomed over 4000 visits to our studios and we hope to exceed this in 2020 as we have a record number of 55 artists and makers taking part. We also have group exhibitions at The Creggans Inn in Strachur and Fynewood in Dunoon where visitors can see work from all our members.

In 2020, we will have exhibitions at The Barony arts centre in West Kilbride and we are already planning a Christmas exhibition in Helensburgh. We also run an art competition for children and young people and have started to provide workshops in schools. However, our main focus remains the Open Studios weekend when we welcome visitors into our studios and workshops. We invite you to see and find out more about the processes we use in our many and varied forms of creativity, as well as examples of our finished work. There is also an ‘invited artists’ exhibition during Open Studios where we invite a small number of artists from across Scotland to share their work at Dunoon Burgh Hall.

We welcome any members of the public to subscribe to Cowal Open Studios through our website – to receive additional news via email updates.

New members are also welcome for 2021, or you can join us as an associate artist at any time. Please contact us through this website,

With very best wishes,

Deb Wing (Chair of Cowal Open Studios)
