About Cowal Open Studios

We are a group of artists and makers living and working on the Cowal Peninsula, in Argyll, Scotland. We volunteer our time and resources to make our event happen each year.

Since 2010 we have successfully run the open studios with each year seeing more artists join. This allows us to offer an even greater range of interesting studios to visit and artistic disciplines to our visitors to discover.

The many artistic forms represented include: painting, jewellery, pottery, glass, textiles, lino and collagraph printing, botanical printing, visual arts, photography, woodturning, tapestry weaving, collage and metalwork.

Each year we have a different selection of artists but there is always a good mix of old and new members taking part, often with over 50+ artists taking part.

Over the years we have expanded to develop a creative approach to the year including two yearly exhibitions displaying the art of our members, plus another invited artists exhibition which runs in parallel to the open studio weekend.

We encourage creativity in the area through involving local school children and young people in an annual art competition and introducing our treasure trail to find artwork in  our local Free Art Friday event.

Enquiries and applications from new members are taken between September and February each year. New members are always welcome.  You also have the option to join as an associate artist at any time. Please contact us through this website,

We very much look forward to meeting you at our next open studio weekend.
