I’m a self taught watercolourist who started painting in retirement. Newly moved to Cowal, I’m excited by the inspiration my surroundings have to offer me.
I chose early on to use watercolour in my artistic journey, attracted by its challenges and the often magical, results that can occur with this medium. I particularly embrace watercolour’s unpredictability as I find trying to control it saps the energy of the painting. I occasionally use ink as well as watercolour and employ various techniques to provide texture and interest
I prefer to let water and pigment do what it will, with sometimes very little intervention on my part. Recently I migrated into more expressive intuitive work and have almost entirely abandoned brushwork in favour of liquid watercolour or pure pigment, water spray and manipulation with bamboo pen and palette knife marks.
My inspiration is mainly drawn from the natural world around me, and the feelings it evokes in me as I immerse myself in it.
